On December 6th 2019 a one day conference titled The Evolution of Development Thinking took place at Palais des Nations, Headquarter of the United Nations Organizations in Geneva. This event is part of a Master level course on development at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

This Master level course at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland is addressing some central questions of development thinking organized in two blocks.

The first block is focused on the participants researching and presenting cases of development programs that are representative of different streams in development theory. These are growth theories, modernization theory, dependency theories, the Washington and post-Washington consensus and the capabilities approach.

The second block is then taking place in Geneva, Switzerland at the Palais des Nations, the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva and is focused on meeting and interacting with development practitioners. The second block therefore serves to bring to life the theoretical part of this course while offering the oportunitiy to learn about real cases of development work and meet the people who are delivering them.
